Lynn McCallum

I received my undergraduate degrees from Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, South Dakota, with dual majors in Elementary Education and Special Education. My minor was in Early Childhood Education. I  obtained a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from USD, Vermillion, South Dakota. I began my career in education teaching third grade in North Sioux City, South Dakota. After ten years as a third-grade instructor, I began teaching in the Junior First Grade Classroom and Kindergarten at North Sioux City for the next eleven years. In 2000 I relocated to California. It was there that I continued my career at Barona Indian Charter School. While at BICS I have taught grades K-2. My family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada for a year. While thereI taught second grade in an Edison School. I have been teaching for 45 years. I promote curiosity and a love for learning and am always working to build critical thinking skills. I try to set realistic goals for myself and my students. I am adaptable in order to work with a diversified population effectively. I know the importance of making education a team effort with all adults that are involved in a child’s life.

Michelle Lincoln

This is my 8th year teaching. I have taught 1st grade and kindergarten in the past. I received my BA and teaching credential from San Diego State. I believe that all students are special and learn in unique ways. I will do what it takes for them to succeed. I have lived in San Diego my entire life and you can often find me doing something outside with my husband and two boys. I love playing soccer, spending time in the sunshine, and being around friends and family.

Sarah Johnson

My name is Sarah and this is my 4th year teaching.  Before I moved to California, I taught 1st grade for two years at a Dual Language school in Alexandria, VA.  This is my second year teaching 2nd grade. I graduated from UVA with my Master’s in Elementary Education and attended William and Mary for my undergraduate degree. I’m originally from Richmond, VA. When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me thrifting for children’s books, trying out a new restaurant, or spending time with family and friends.  I'm excited for this new adventure!

Becca Gill

3rd - 4th Grades

I moved to San Diego from Virginia Beach 6 years ago and have loved every second of it.  This is my 16th year as an educator and my 5th year at BICS.  I have my bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies/Elementary Education and my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Trauma and Resiliency.  I currently hold my VA teaching credential for PK-6th with an ESL endorsement added and have my CA multi-subject preschool-12th teaching credential. I am all about hands-on learning and creating a safe, trauma-informed, equitable classroom environment. Creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences for my students is important and is something I enjoy doing.

Caitlin Parsons

Hi! I am so excited to teach at BICS this year! A year ago, my husband and I made the decision to move to California from Nebraska where I taught two years in fifth grade at a small private school. I have since had the opportunity to teach 5th grade in the Santee School District. I earned both my bachelor’s and my master’s degree in elementary education at the University of Midland in Nebraska.  I am passionate about teaching children to become leaders in our classroom as well as in our community. When I am not teaching, you can find me reading, crafting, or playing with my Australian Shepherd dog!

Julie Cushman

Principal/Director

After 15 years teaching at BICS, I was proud to be selected as the new Principal and Director. I earned my BA, teaching credential, and administrative services credential from National University. I am a longtime Lakeside resident and love spending time with family, friends and my two dogs. I also love traveling, music, & spending time working in my yard.

Lisa Hanouka

Registrar (Attendance/Health)

I earned my Bachelor Degree in Liberal Studies Elementary Education from San Diego State University in 2018. I’ve always had a passion to work with kids. I find myself happy and proud to be serving the BICS community for the 4th year. I enjoy working with kids, staff, and families here at BICS. I enjoy traveling and discovering new places. I speak 3 languages and lived in 3 different countries.

Krystal Hoffmann

Special Education Teacher/Director

I earned my general and special education degrees from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. I currently hold a Cleared California credential for K-8 General Education and a Cleared California credential for K-12 Mild/Moderate Special Education. I spent over a decade teaching middle school, including 4 years as the 7th/8th grade combo teacher here at BICS. I took over as the Special Education Director in the Fall of 2022 and haven’t looked back. I enjoy working with our students with special needs and helping them reach their goals. When I am not teaching, you can find me at home, out on an adventure with my husband and our two kids, or watching baseball with my family. I grew up in East County and graduated from El Capitan High School in Lakeside. I am so thankful for the opportunity to live, raise my children, and have them attend school in the same community that I grew up in.

Sahil Alami

The students at BICS refer to me as "Coach A". I am also a basketball coach at El Capitan High School. My ultimate career aspiration is to become a college basketball coach. I have been delighted to be a part of a small school as it bonds the students and staff together. In addition to my coaching responsibilities, I am deeply committed to promoting healthy living among students. Through health classes, I educate them on the fundamental elements of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I also teach them about all kinds of sports in hopes that they find a passion of their own.

I am Debbie Aguiar. I have worked at Barona Indian Charter School for almost 17 years. I have worn many hats, including Campus Supervisor and art instruction. For the past three years I have been an instructional aide for our amazing kindergarten class.

Kelly Pettey

Campus Supervisor

Hello, my name is Kelly Pettey, Mrs. Kelly. I am new here at Barona Indian Charter School. My position is Campus Supervisor. My education is in early childhood education. I have worked in several private preschools throughout my career and have also worked as an associate Head Start teacher. I am excited to be on staff at Barona Indian Charter School and looking forward to what the future has for the school.

Dr. Jeffrey Felix

Advisor

I have been an educator for close to 40 years, serving 19 as a superintendent in SD county. I was named Superintendent of the Year twice by ACSA and named the Innovative Superintendent for 2016.  I earned a doctorate in educational leadership from UCSD. After retiring from Coronado USD in 2016, I am proud to have served the BICS community since 2020.
