I earned my BA from Dakota Wesleyan University and my MA from USD, both in South Dakota. I have taught TK-3rd grade in South Dakota, Nevada, and now here at BICS. Ms. Becca Gill
I moved to San Diego from Virginia Beach years ago and have loved every second of it. I taught preschool for six years and then taught 2nd and 3rd grade for several years. I am all about hands-on learning in the classroom and enjoy creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences for my students. Mrs. Jamie Barber
I earned my BS and teaching credentials from Cal State San Marcos. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and ELL in Ramona and middle school in Escondido. I live in Ramona with my husband and two children. Mr. Rob Roland
3rd - 4th Grade
I received my BA and teaching credential through SDSU. I’ve filled many roles as an educator, most recently as a support teacher for K-6 in both Cajon Valley and Lakeside School Districts. I’m excited to be a part of the BICS team, and admire the strong sense of community everyone shares. Born and raised in San Diego, I am married and have four daughters. I like spending time at the beach or bay, and enjoy various outdoor activities such as hiking and biking.
Mrs. Josy Mueller
5th - 6th Grade
Before coming to BICS, I taught preschool and assisted in 1st and 4th grade. I was born and raised in San Diego and now live with my husband and two dogs in East County. I went to school at SDSU where I received my BA and teaching credential. I love coffee, Country music, my two fur children, and ANYTHING Disney! I am fluent in Spanish. Mrs. Krystal Hoffmann
7th - 8th Grade
I received my general and special education degrees from Northern Arizona University. I have been teaching for a decade in middle school and love every minute of it. I love Red Sox baseball, Disney, cooking, country music, and spending time with my friends and family! Mr. Adam Muhtaseb
I am the BICS Physical Education Teacher. I earned my teaching credential at Northern Arizona University and have taught Physical Education for many years. My goal is to empower students to be as physically active as much as possible inside and outside of school. I hope to teach skills and abilities that translate into a lifelong healthy lifestyle.
Mrs. Mary Kirwan
I earned my Art Degree from the University of Arizona and an Elementary Teaching Credential from Chapman University. I have taught every grade level from Kinder-8th grade for over 23 years here in San Diego. I am originally from the Chicago area and am still a Black Hawks fan. I am a single mom and spend most evenings freezing at one ice rink or another while watching my son play. I love to cook, paint, and take walks with my 2 dogs. I truly enjoy teaching and am very excited to be a member of BICS staff..
Ms. Christine Ludolph
I earned a BS from Northern Arizona University in History and Political Science and an MA in Teaching from the University of Southern California. I have taught 2nd and 6th grade as well as Preschool TK/K. I love off-roading (the more dirt the better), spending family and friends, taking pictures of everything, scrapbooking, and all the artsy things. Dr. Jeffrey Felix
I have been an educator for close to 40 years, serving 19 as a superintendent in SD county. I was named Superintendent of the Year twice by ACSA and named the Innovative Superintendent for 2016. I retired in 2016 and am proud to serve the BICS community.
Mrs. Julie Cushman
Teacher on Special Assignment
This is my 14th year teaching at BICS. I taught 2nd grade, a 2/3 combo, and a 3/4 combo class. I received my BA and teaching credential from National University. I am a longtime Lakeside resident and when I am not teaching, I love spending time with family, friends and my two dogs. I also love traveling, music and spending time working in my yard. Mrs. Kathryn Gerstenberg
Special Education Teacher/Director
I have been teaching for over 20 years. Before coming to BICS, I taught Special Education in the Grossmont Union High School District. I have a passion for teaching and know each student has their own style of learning. I received my MS degree in 2015, from National University. I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy being outdoors hiking, swimming, kayaking, river rafting, and camping.
Yvonne Romero LaChappa
I am called Ms. Yvonne to some, Auntie and Mamow (grandmother) to many of the students at BICS. I have four children, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. I am blessed! I have been part of Barona Indian Charter for nineteen years as School Secretary. I am a long-time resident of the Barona Community an enrolled member of the Mesa Grande Indian Reservation. I am proud to be part of the many employees here at BICS; we are a family and a great team.
I moved to the United States in 2008, started high school as a 9th grader and eventually graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in Liberal Studies Elementary Education. I would love to someday be an elementary school teacher. I come from a Middle Eastern background with my first language Chaldean and my second Arabic. I enjoy going out with my friends and family to try different kinds of restaurants. On my free time, I enjoy exploring the city and learning about its history and culture.
I am an East Coast transplant, who received her BA in Anthropology/Archeology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. I have been a California girl since 1993. I have had a variety of experience including working as an archeologist, owning businesses, and working with our students here at BICS. I am in my 14th year here and have led the Hands-on Science program for nearly 12 years. I spend my day working with our students in the classroom and in a small group setting. I am a mom of two kids that attended BICS many years ago! I feel so fortunate to work at a place I love!
