Welcome, my name is Julie Cushman and this is my 14th year teaching at Barona Indian Charter School. When I started here I taught 2nd grade and then a 2/3 combo class and am now teaching a 3/4 combo class. What I love the most about teaching a combination class is that with a small school I get students for two years. This gives me the opportunity to build a strong relationship with them to encourage a growth mindset, positivity and an understanding of an individual’s uniqueness. I decided to become a teacher after helping out in my son’s pre-school classroom; I loved working with the students. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and my teaching credential at National University.

I am a longtime Lakeside resident and when I am not teaching I love spending time with family, friends and my two dogs. I also love traveling, music and spending time working in my yard!

As always I look forward to another wonderful school year with a great group of students!

Mrs. Josy Mueller

5th/6th Grade

Hello BICS families!

I am Mrs. Mueller and this will be my second year here at Barona. I am so excited to be here on our wonderful campus with the kids! Before coming to BICS I taught preschool and helped out in 1st and 4th grade. What I love most about our school is that it is so small and it allows us to build those connections with every student, even if they aren’t in our class. I love the culture here at our school and the little family that we are. I was born and raised in San Diego and now live with my husband and two dogs in East County. I went to school at SDSU where I got my bachelors in Child and Family Development and my teaching credential.

Some fun facts about me are that I love coffee, Country music, my two fur children, and ANYTHING Disney! I am fluent in Spanish. I love spending time with my family and finding new craft projects to do. I have recently picked up a new love for houseplants and enjoy watching them grow! I love my students and the relationships I get to build with them throughout the year are the most important part of my job! I’m ready to have an AWESOME school year!
